hello, i’m niki weinberg!

I earned my BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and have spent the past 20 years building a multifaceted creative life, which includes 12 years serving over 300 clients, collaborating with luxury wedding planners, directing a Montessori School for a few years, and being a mother to two amazing kiddos.

Settled among the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, I focus on fine art, surface design, and hand-painted home interior products and am deeply inspired by art history, interior design, gardens, heirlooms, culinary arts, and the natural world. I love translating those influences into meaningful artwork meant to be lived with, collected, and cherished as part of the everyday beauty of the spaces we call home.

From sketch to wallpaper. Birds, Butterflies & Kumquats began as hand-drawn motifs and slowly came together as a trailing floral pattern designed with wallpaper, fabric, and home decor in mind. I love working analog, creating quick sketches, and then refining further with ink and fine liner - then bumping into illustrator to create a design that is ready for a room. The day I sat down to make this I forgot my sketch paper at home and I had already found a table in a crowded cafe. I had this pattern in my mind so I just grabbed a napkin. I ended up polishing the pattern from last week’s trailing floral challenge, and I love it so much that I’m working on a full collection. It takes a few weeks to build a collection, so I’ll be sharing little sneak peeks along the way. I’m calling this pattern Birds, Butterflies & Kumquats, a perfect way to start the summer. One of my favorite materials is a fine liner and it was used to make this pattern, which I call Embroidered Beach Rose. If you notice behind the pattern, there is a small woven texture, which is also seen in the pattern Woven Seagulls from yesterday’s post.
